Hard fought win to Brian Long at Warwick

Sam Johnston TAS and Natasha Fulton-Kennedy NEGSSam Johnston TAS and Natasha Fulton-Kennedy NEGS Pittsworth Rifle Club shooter Brian Long emerged with aggregate honours in a hard fought contest at the Darling Downs Rifle Association championship at Warwick on the weekend.

He and Shaun Dolan from Murwillumbah each missed just two bullseyes in 60 shots over the two days with Brian posting 34 centre bulls to Shaun’s 27.

The two matches contested attracted a big field of 80 shooters with many leading shooters in contention.

 

Brian Long started strongly taking out the Percy Gartner Memorial on Saturday, beating Jim Dickenson from Pratten by just two centres, 149.16 to 149.14.

 

The match comprised 15 shots at 500 and 600 yards.

On Sunday, Shaun Dolan and Brisbane shooter Geoff Grosskreutz were separated by a single centre bull in the Darling Downs Prize Shoot. Both shot possible 150s with 10 shots at 300, 500 and 600 yards.

Ashley Bidgood from Crows Nest-Goombungee placed third in both competitions and the grand aggregate, dropping just three shots over the weekend. He posted the top centre bull count for the two days to push North Arm’s Des Voght into fourth place, 297.37 to 297.26.

Dennis Bidgood from Crows Nest-Goombungee made a clean sweep of the B Grade events, finishing two shots clear in the grand aggregate from The Armidale School student Sam Johnston, 292.25 to 290.18.

Natasha Fulton-Kennedy from New England Girls School at Armidale was a convincing winner of the C Grade events, missing just eight bulls across the weekend for an aggregate score of 292.8.

Brent Noble impressive in F Class

Scope class shooters also turned out in big numbers at Warwick with young Ipswich shooter Brent Noble emerging with top honours in a close tussle with Goondiwindi’s Gary Haeusler.

Brent won the Darling Downs Prize Shot on Sunday with a possible 180 and also clinched the Grand Aggregate by a single centre bull from Gary who won the Percy Gartner Memorial event on Saturday.

Another rising Ipswich shooter Josh Reid made a clean sweep in F Standard B Grade dropping just six shots over the weekend. He was hard pressed in the Darling Downs Prize Shoot by Murwillumbah’s Ron Millengen, winning 177.12 to 177.10.

Beaudesert shooter Brent Knudsen won both days and took out the grand aggregate in F Open scope competition dropping just three shots over the weekend.
