North Arm winner Ashley Bidgood Crows NewsAshley scores trophy double at North Arm shoot
Some of the most challenging wind conditions played havoc with scores at the North Arm Rifle Club and Lilley District Prize Shoot at Yandina, the last Open event for 2016.
Swirling gusts had shooters constantly cranking their sights in an often vain attempt to try and stay on target with even the best challenged to stay on top.
Ashley Bidgood from Crows Nest scored a competition double, taking out the Lilley Open and the two day aggregate in a close tussle all weekend with local member Colin Cole who secured the North Arm Open trophy.
The six-range winning aggregate with 11 missed bulls posted by Ashley reflected just how tough conditions were, making slow progress for the big field of 80 competitors at the two-day event on October 29 and 30.
A big contingent of F Class scope shooters shot on electronic targets at one end of the mound and .303 enthusiasts at the other.
In B Grade, Gympie shooter Bob Crawford took the North Arm and Aggregate trophies while Gerard Loughran from Gatton scored a double in C Grade.
North Arm local Ben Curley made a clean sweep of the strong F Standard scope rifle events and Cannon Hill’s Mark Fairbairn dominated the F Target Rifle class. Josh Reid from Ipswich took two of the F Open scope trophies.
Peter Richards from the Queensland Military Rifle Club put on a dominant display winning the .303 rifle competition.
