A big week of shooting at Belmont range in Brisbane is underway with the F Class national teams championships ahead of the QRA Queens Prize.

With so many shooters in town, including from New Zealand, Canada and the UK, the Queens will have a field of more than 300 lining up on Friday after the Duncan lead-up match.

More than 100 shooters took part in the Metropolitan District Rifle Association annual prize shoot on Sunday over 800, 900 and 1000 yards.

Natives member Steve Smith was pleased to break through for his first open prize win in such a high class field. Steve shot an aggregate 147.16 to win by three centre bulls from Bisley Army Club visitor Rob Kitson.

Cameron McEwan from Dalby-Tara continued his fine recent form to share the F Open top score of 178.15 with Rod Davies from Cessnock.

Bathurst visitor Geoff Willis edged out Natives Jeff Leung in F Standard by two shots, 172.9 to 170.9.

A field of 18 contested the F Target Rifle class won by Mackay’s Tim Lawrence with 174.9.
