Brisbane shooter Kim O’Loghlen continued his good form in the National Rifle Championships which drew a class field of more than 150 shooters to the Belmont Range from June 20-24.

The winner of his Natives Rifle Club Prize Shoot turned in an outstanding performance on the final day of the nationals to take out the Royal Kaltenberg Challenge Cup.

The best shooters over five days of competition in the President’s Match and the Queens Prize go head to head for the Kaltenberg over 15 shots at 1000 yards.

Kim was the only shooter in the high class Australian field to record a possible 75 score in testing conditions.

He placed fourth in the lead-up President’s Match, and 9th in the National Queens to finish second overall on Grand Aggregate.

The Presidents and Grand Aggregate was won by Orange, NSW shooter Mark Thurtell and James Corbett, from Benalla, Victoria, claimed his fifth National Queens.

Gillian Webb-Enslin, Pacific, and Geoff Grosskreutz, Brisbane Rifle Club dropped only two shots each in the Queens with Gillian finishing third with 53 centres and Geoff fourth with 43.

Ashley Bidgood, Crows Nest-Goombungee, placed seventh in the Queens and Colin Cole eighth.

Other strong Queensland performers included Tim Berry, Natives, who placed fifth in the Grand Aggregate and Helen Griffiths seventh.

In strong Queens F Class competition, Nick Williamson from Clermont placed second in the Standard A grade with Ernie Mace from Central third.

The competition was won by Hobart’s Bob Petersen.

The F Open Queens was won by David McNamara from Cairns with Mark Fairbairn, Cannon Hill, third.
