Ryan Shaw

Ryan is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and his current role is as Director of Risk Specialist and Defence Liaison Officer for a north side RSL Club.

He has a strong background in corporate governance and strategy gained from over 13 years’ experience in the Military, Government and Defence Industry. He has a sound working knowledge of not-for-profit entities and ability to apply that knowledge to improve organisational performance.

Ryan has a strong background in developing and implementing strategic and compliance frameworks and ensuring that they meet organisational corporate governance, vision and risk management obligations.

As a former sniper, Ryan understands the importance of benchmarking safety, innovation, and competition, all of which our organisation values.

Ian Smith

Ian Smith brings over four decades of senior leadership experience in engineering, project management, and infrastructure development to the Governance Committee of the Queensland Rifle Association. With a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) and a Master of Project Management, Ian has held executive roles across the power, mining, chemical, and water sectors, including as  a Director of Trility Pty Ltd.

A graduate and member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Ian has a strong background in governance, compliance, and risk management. His professional experience includes working with diverse boards, managing regulatory and legal obligations, and leading complex projects across Australia and internationally.

Since joining the sport in 2019, Ian has developed a strong passion for fullbore target rifle shooting. He currently serves as Vice-Captain and Secretary of the Brisbane Mariners Rifle Club and is a Club-accredited Range Officer. Ian’s governance acumen, collaborative approach, and outcome-focused mindset make him a valuable contributor to the QRA Governance Committee.

Thomas Kitching

Thomas Kitching is a seasoned technology and program management professional with over 10 years of executive experience across government, not-for-profit, and private sectors. He currently serves as a Portfolio Delivery Manager at Redlands City Council and as a Non-Executive Director at Star Community Services where he leads enterprise system implementations, cyber governance and complex technology initiatives.

Thomas has been a member of the Queensland Rifle Association since 2022 and is an active FTR shooter with the Natives Rifle Club. He brings to the Governance Committee a strong background in ERP governance, strategic project delivery, stakeholder management, and risk oversight.

With prior leadership roles such as General Manager of Technology at Churches of Christ Care, Thomas has delivered major digital transformations and negotiated significant cost savings through high-level vendor management. His practical knowledge in IT governance, cyber security, and organisational strategy supports his commitment to the future of the sport and the effective governance of the QRA.

About Us

The Queensland Rifle Association fosters target rifle shooting and firearms training through our clubs.   Different classes of rifle shooting are conducted by our Clubs under the Standard Shooting Rules (SSRs) of the National Rifle Association of Australia (NRAA).
