Fellow QRA Members
It has been a little while since we have sent out a Board update, however, critical items have been well covered through member updates. The first half of the year has been quite busy from a number of perspectives. Shooting activity in the QRA have been continually disrupted due to inclement weather or threats of such weather. When possible we have seen State Teams trials, State Team Championships and a few OPM’s around the Association.
QRA had several members travel to the Apple Isle for this year’s event from the Goondiwindi RC in Frog and Mia Lowe along with Viv Hunt from CQTS. All put up a decent showing with Frog taking the Lead Up, Kings and Grand Aggs. Congrats to all members for there efforts in attending this Championship.
We saw a great number attend Bendigo this year given VRA are set to host the National Team TR event in 2026 and as has been the case over the last few years QRA members undertake a visit in the year leading into these events to get a feel for the range and potential nuances.
In the Lead Up we had Mike Samuels take out the Sporter PC discipline several points ahead of his nearest competitor. In the Kings, QRA had 18 Members compete and they acquitted themselves very well in stiff competition.
Of note, we crowned a new Kings winner in Tom Halford from Goondiwindi in F Open, along with Jason Mayers taking the FTR title and Mike Samuels continuing his efforts in Sporter PC also taking another Kings prize. Shane Abood was very competitive in TRA to come in 2nd against a very good field.
Congratulations to all those that traveled to Bendigo this year, it can be a tricky range at the best of times.
In recent week’s the NQRA has held it’s Championships which doubled up with the F Class Nationals the following week.
This year’s Championships were well attended by QRA members. A total of 52 Members competed in the NQRA Championships this year. A solid showing from our Members and given the field of F Class shooters on the line we also held our own as individuals.
Again we saw a first time winner in Alan Griffiths in FSA. Alan has been pushing the pointy end for a while now and it was great to see take his first win in Townsville. Mike Samuels backed up his win in Bendigo to take the Kings title also. In the lead up we saw Andrew McKillop take FSA, James Hook take the FTR trophy and Ian McDonald from Muckadilla collect the Sporter – Open trophy.
Thank you to NQRA for hosting such a strong contingent from the QRA for this year.
The follow on for our F Class competitors was the F Class National Teams event. This was shot over 3 days. Day one was a practice at all ranges 700, 800 and 900 metres. This gave range operators a chance to sort out some of the bugs in the target systems which did cause a few minor issues during the Kings. Fortunately, we had our we own Bob Cramp on site to help rectify the issues and to interpret Dimitri when he got excited on the other end of the phone.
QRA fielded strong teams in F Std, F Open and FTR with teams still together following the event in Canberra last year.
After 3 days of intense competition our QRA did very well. Below is a quick summary (along with a link the the results)

F Std
In addition to the team taking all trophies in F Std, Melanie Power won highest off rifle score in F Std.
Well done to all Members involved in this event. Further, a big thank you to Bob Cramp for his ever present assistance on the target system.
The AGM was held in April in conjunction with City v Country and Champion of Champions events in Belmont. At the AGM, Andrew McKillop was re-elected by the Members and their proxies. A subsequent Board meeting has also seen Andrew reinstated as Chairman of the QRA. AGM draft minutes are available here.
At the AGM, Members present ratified the Board’s decision to present QRA Distinguished Service Awards to John Menzel, Tony Inwood, Bob Cramp, Phil Kraut, and Rob Bell. These awards recognise the outstanding and sustained contributions of each recipient in the management and support of the Hexta target systems across both metropolitan and regional clubs. Their dedication has been instrumental in ensuring the reliability and performance of this vital technology, benefiting the entire shooting community. When next on the range, please take a moment to congratulate these remarkable Members on their well-deserved recognition.
Some of you may have seen or noticed the completion and commissioning of the Oooh Media electronic signage on Old Cleveland Road. This one replaced the old sign that was located at the back of the 1000 yard mound at Cannon Hill. This sign has been erected by Oooh Media and provides QRA with a passive income for a number of years.
One of the items presented at the Members Forum – following the AGM – was the National Integrity Framework (NIF).
It is important that all Members understand how this is being implemented and how this may affect them, particular from a learning perspective for some or our Members.
All information can be viewed on the National Integrity Framework page.
Until next time, yours in shooting
