The impressive ‘William Fraser Shield’ was presented by William Fraser while a member of the Cairns Rifle Club. The trophy is awarded for the Inter-Association Teams Shoot – North Queensland versus South Queensland with the first year of competition being 1959. This shield has been contested almost every year for the past 60 years.
Why has the NRAA introduced the Empty Chamber Indicator?
Most of you – the members – would be aware of the NRAA Board’s recent decision to introduce Empty Chamber Indicators (ECI) into the SSRs. The change to the rules will be introduced on 1 July 2020, for implementation by 1st November 2020.
Last Saturday Steve Minnikin MP, Member for Chatsworth, was at the Belmont Range to present representatives from Brisbane, Natives and Brisbane Mariners rifle clubs with certificates acknowledging they were successful in receiving $2,000 in Grant funding through the Queensland Government’s Active Clubs program.
The Queensland Police Service has responded to an increasing number of incidents within the community following reports of persons in possession of items described as firearms. On investigation the items were identified as gel blasters and on occasions the behaviour of the persons in possession of these items has constituted a variety of offences.
Originally intended to honour the more than 500 Riflemen of the QRA who lost their lives during World War I, the memorial also pays tribute to the men and women of all shooting disciplines who have served in defence of the nation in all of Australia’s wars and campaigns since the Boer War, including peace-keeping operations post 1946.
BILLY SING MARKSMAN SHOOT, CLERMONT RIFLE RANGE ,1ST AND 2ND OCTOBER 2016. The Third Billy Sing Marksman Shoot, was held at the Clermont Rifle Range on the 1st and 2nd October 2016. Saturday morning saw a very cold start with 3.8 degree temperature, warming up over the weekend to 36 degree on Sunday afternoon.
New Zealand shooter John Snowden set a hot pace winning the Duncan lead-up match to the QRA Queens with a possible 300 with 33 centres over the six range event. John, from Ashurburton in the South Island, has been a regular visitor to Brisbane and is part of a strong 2017 Kiwi contingent.
Natives shooter Kim O’Loghlen mastered gusty conditions over three long ranges to win the Metropolitan District Rifle Association Open on Sunday, 13th.
QRA Team at National Veterans Team Championships 2017 at the Duncan Range, Belmont
Belmont rifle range has now fully entered the electronic era with the two major Queens Prize shoots and all club events this year shot on the new targets. The transition has been largely seamless thanks to the work of a small dedicated team of volunteers led by Pacific member Bob Cramp.
